We spoke the other day of Micky Rooney's passing and now the passing of the great trainer Richard "Dickie" Small, who was 68.Small had many great horses like Breeders Cup Classic winner Concern,Caeser's Wish, and Broad Brush. Broad Brush the winner of 2.9 million dollars is the all time leading Maryland thoroughbred.Mr. Small would drive Broad Brush around in his van the night before a big race to relax him which gave the name to one of his other horses , Night Driver. He was also a great supporter of female jockeys, giving many a leg up on their first mounts including Rosie Napravnik. Rest in peace Richard Small you gave us many a winner in your day.
